Runner’s knee can strike nearly any athlete or active person because running, jumping, climbing, bending, and squatting are common across most sports and many day-to-day activities.
Runner’s knee can refer to a number of pains or conditions,  but it usually refers to pain around or under the kneecap. Pain from runner’s knee can include stiffness, sudden sharpness, or a dull ache. The kneecap may appear swollen or inflamed, and hearing cracking or popping sounds is not uncommon.
Most commonly, pain from runner’s knee is the result of tissue damage, stress on the knees due to undertrained quadriceps or hamstrings, exercising on hard surfaces, running downhill (which puts extra force on the knee and thigh bone), or structural misalignment of the knee bone and joints. Runner’s knee can also occur from improper body mechanics or technique, improper footwear, or after changes in activity, such as an intensified training schedule or switching from running on a treadmill to running outside.
The RapidForce® U Shape is designed to help reduce pain from runner’s knee and can also help soothe general knee pain. The U Shape’s central core is adhered to the side of the knee and cradles the area with the most pain. The two arms are stretched outwards, creating a structural support system for the kneecap, muscle, tissue, tendons, and ligaments. The U Shape is also designed to gently lift the upper layers of the skin, creating more subcutaneous space for oxygen, blood, and healing nutrients to reach the injury site.

Time it Right

While RapidForce® Shapes can be applied at any time, they should be applied 1–2 hours before beginning strenuous physical activity. The Shapes can start working is as little as two hours, but some applications take up to four hours.

Prep Skin Thoroughly

Wash and dry the skin to remove oils, moisture, and dirt. Trim or shave body hair; this helps create a more secure bond and more comfortable removal. Apply the provided Skin Tac liquid adhesive wipe. Allow 30 seconds for it to dry.

Customize Stretch

Secure the Shape’s central core to the most painful spot. For daily wear or moderate-to-light athletics, a mild stretch of 3/4” is ideal. Application instructions vary based on Shape, so read and follow the instructions mailed with your shape(s).

Secure Bond

With both the Shape and the skin at room temperature, carefully begin applying the shape. Once the shape is secure, rub it vigorously to maximize adhesive bond to skin.

    2. Apply the center of the U Shape to this point

    Peel off the backing of the U Shape’s central core and place over the pain point in the side of the knee, one finger's width away from the kneecap. Press to secure the bond.

    3. Apply lower arm - 3/4" Stretch

    Peel off the middle backing of one of the arms of the U Shape, leaving the end tab in place. While stabilizing the central core with one hand, customize the level of stretch based on the intensity of your activity and place along the outer edges of the kneecap. Smooth the fabric onto the skin, moving from the center of the U Shape outwards. Remove the backing from the end tab and place on the skin. Do not stretch this small piece. Press over the entire arm of the U Shape for about 10 seconds to secure the bond. Repeat for the other arm.

    Apply the upper arm of the U Shape in the same fashion as described in step 3, in the opposite direction.

    5. Feel Relief and Remove

    You may begin feeling relief within a few hours. However, it could take up to 24 hours. RapidForce shapes can provide pain relief and muscle support for up to five days but can be removed at any time. To remove, pull from the end of the arms to the center. If hair is present, pull in the direction of the hair’s growth to reduce discomfort. For easier removal, use mild warm water in the shower and then remove the shape slowly.
